Canadians complain about too many immigrants and refugees arriving in the country

Canada is a country built on immigration and diversity. Ever since the first Europeans (French and English settlers) set foot in Canada, people have been immigrating to the country from all over the world. Immigration (irrespective of its scope and parameters) has been the norm in the country. Immigration is a long-held Canadian tradition, but a scathing news story published on 23 July 2025 by the National Post (a Canadian newspaper) indicates that Canadians dislike seeing many newcomer immigrants coming to the country.

The newspaper presented findings of an online survey conducted by a Research Centre called “Leger for the Canadian Association”. The survey ran between June 20 and 22, 2025, and it revealed that white Canadians are less critical of the newcomers than coloured Canadians, who dislike the higher number of new immigrants arriving in the country. Thirty-six (36%) percent of white Canadians disapprove of the higher number of newcomers, while 57 percent of coloured Canadians disapprove of the intense immigration numbers.

Some people argue that admitting too many immigrants into the country will upend its economy and stability. Canada brings people into the country for different reasons: to enhance the country’s economic conditions, to passionately deliver refugees out of risk zones and wretched conditions, and to reunite family members. The largest category of immigrants that comes to the country is the economic class (skilled workers and businesspeople). Refugee and family reunification categories are the second and third categories, respectively.
