The Internet revolutionizes the world

Everything needs to mature to accomplish certain tasks. “Computers have evolved and advanced significantly over the decades since they originated.” Two computer scientists named Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf worked tirelessly and developed a communication model that later enabled computers to understand each other through streamlined connections and protocols.

Because of exerted efforts, the Internet matured in 1983. That year is considered the official birthday of the Internet. Before that time, the various existing computer networks had not been standardized to communicate with each other. A new communications protocol called Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) was born.

Moreover, Tim Berners-Lee, an English computer programmer, rolled up his sleeves and aimed to come up with a network system that could transmit automated information between scientists in universities around the world. He invented the World Wide Web in 1989 but was not operational yet. He continued to advance his research until he brought it to fruition in April 1993. The famous World Wide Web (WWW) was launched in that year, ushering in a new dawn for the general public.

By using browsers, ordinary people began to surf the internet which they had not been able to access before. Hence, launching the web has been a breakthrough invention indeed. “The Internet Protocol (IP) has transformed the internet into a worldwide network, accessible to the public.” The IP has the task of delivering packets from the source host to the destination host solely based on the IP addresses in the packet headers.

Credit goes to all those scientists and researchers who earnestly collaborated, cooperated, and connected the world’s residents to share information and insights. The Internet is the gateway to automated, shared information between people, regardless of their roles or geographical locations. What started as a defense strategy and tool for just one country has morphed into a worldwide communication network utilized by millions of people. The internet is amazing and has revolutionized the world indeed.
